A fake email from your host, how to spot phishing

Phishing is impersonating a trusted company to extract your data or money. Site owners are a prime target: an email "from the host" or "from the domain registrar" threatening that you are about to lose your site is enough, and many people click in a panic.

Typical warning signs

  • Time pressure and a threat: "the domain expires today", "the account will be deleted in 24h".
  • A link that looks almost right: a typo in the address, an extra word, a different domain ending.
  • A request to log in or pay through a link in the email, rather than through the panel address you know.
  • A sender that does not match your real provider's domain.

The golden rule: do not click, go in yourself

If you get an email about an expiring domain or an account problem, do not click the link. Open your browser and go to your host's or registrar's panel the way you always do, typing the address manually. If the matter is real, you will see it there. If there is no trace of it, it was a scam.

Real providers do not demand payment "in 15 minutes through a link, or the site disappears". Time pressure is scammers' most common trick.

What to do if you have already clicked

If you entered your login details on a fake page, change the password immediately in the real panel and enable two-factor login. If you entered card details, contact your bank. The sooner, the smaller the damage.

We will help verify and secure

Not sure whether an email is real? We can check it before you click. And with ongoing care we keep track of domain and certificate deadlines, so real notifications do not get lost among the fake ones.
