DNS (Domain Name System)
DNS translates human-readable names (yourcompany.com) into the IP addresses of the servers hosting the site and email. It is what makes you land in the right place when you type an address.
DNS misconfigurations are a common cause of problems: the site "disappears", email does not arrive or goes to spam. When changing hosting, switching DNS correctly decides whether the migration happens without downtime.
