Joomla or WordPress? What to choose for a business site
You are setting up or refreshing a business site and face the question: Joomla or WordPress? Both systems have run for years and power millions of sites. There is no single "correct" answer, but there are concrete differences that decide the choice in practice. Let us lay them out calmly, without fanaticism on either side.
Ease of use
This is the most common reason for the choice. WordPress has a simpler, more intuitive panel and a huge number of ready themes and plugins, so you can do many things without a developer. Joomla is more elaborate and flexible out of the box, but has a higher barrier to entry, beginners get lost in it more easily.
Community and support
This is the biggest difference. WordPress powers most of the web, so it is easy to find a guide, a plugin, and above all someone to work on it. Joomla has a smaller, if devoted, community. In practice that means over time it gets harder to find someone to manage the site and to get fresh extensions.
Security
Both systems are solid in themselves and quickly patched. The difference is not "which is more secure" but "whether it is kept updated". Cost
In both cases the system itself is free, and you pay for hosting, a theme and any paid add-ons. With WordPress the larger choice of plugins is often cheaper and free alternatives are easier to find. With Joomla some features are built in, but the smaller extension market can raise the cost of specific solutions.
When Joomla, and when WordPress
If you are starting from scratch or care about ease of use and broad support, WordPress is usually the safer choice for the future. If you have a working Joomla site, you have support for it and everything runs smoothly, there is no reason to change it for the sake of it. A migration becomes reasonable only when Joomla starts getting in the way: troublesome updates, abandoned extensions, no one to manage it.
