RCE (remote code execution)

Remote Code Execution is a vulnerability that lets an attacker run arbitrary code on the server, in practice taking over the site entirely. It is the peak of threats, often exploited en masse within hours of a flaw being disclosed.

The main protection against RCE is patching vulnerable components immediately. Once a flaw becomes public, bots instantly scan the internet for unpatched sites.
