Defacement

Defacement is an attack in which the attacker replaces the home page or other pages, for example with a message, a foreign language or advertising content. Unlike quiet malware, it is immediately visible to everyone.

Although it looks alarming, it usually signals a breach that can be reversed. It is important not only to restore the content but also to find and close the way the attacker got in, otherwise the defacement returns.
